Since I was young, I’ve always loved dancing. God rest your soul, mom… you used to tell me, ‘Get up, get up, dance in front of people.’ I was just a kid—I used to skip school just to go to the club and practice.
I joined a group called Gaby Chiba, and we started traveling from one country to another. Those were the most beautiful days of my life. Then I decided to create my own group. I started a dabke troupe, and we began performing in hotels all over the world.
After some time, I came back to Lebanon. There were a few zaffe groups, so I tried it—and people really loved it. I guess I have a kind of karisma… those getting married today probably understand what I mean. I started building a team—bringing in young men and women, growing the group bigger and bigger. Some stayed, some left, some grew, some got married, some had different circumstances… And today, many of the groups in the market actually came out of our school.
